Checking Your Brakes

The brake system is one of the most important parts of your car. If you can't stop in time, it could lead to an accident and no one wants that.
There are some key things to look for if you think your having problems with your brake system.
  • If you are experiencing brake pedel fluctuation or a spongy feeling, this can mean your low on brake fluid or have a hydraulics leak. Check the level of brake fluid (left). If you have enough fluid, it could mean a more serious issue.
  • If you hear a scraping or screeching sound coming from your wheels, this can mean your brake pads or brake shoes (right, D) are worn out and need replacing.
  • If you are getting bad gas mileage and you are not coasting well, you could have a stuck caliper (right, B/C). This is the part of the brakes that actually applies the stopping power. If it is stuck, you will be dragging all the time and could possibly damage your rotors (right, A) due to over heating.
